LD 1270 An Act Regarding Patient-directed Care at the End of Life
Co-sponsor’s testimony

Senator Brakey, Representative Gattine, Esteemed Members of the Health and Human Services Committee, I am Brian Hubbell, representing House District 135, Bar Harbor, Mount Desert, and Lamoine, and I am before you this morning as a cosponsor of LD 1270 An Act Regarding Patient-directed Care at the End of Life

Having witnessed good friends and relatives negotiate debilitating illness at the end of life with as much grace and valor as each found possible, I believe strongly in the merits of this bill and I thank Senator Katz deeply for his sponsorship.

In respect for your time, I will say, simply, that I also believe that the concepts of agency and liberty for each of us to determine our own future form the core of what we value most as self-realized beings.

So I ask for your support of this bill.

Thank you. I am happy to take any questions.
